It's true and they have not improved their views on science over the centuries.

Spirituality and science go hand in hand for me. But there will always be the typical dingus that will start another hunt.

That's pie in the sky thinking, imagine in those early days what would happen to regular people if the leaders didn't have fear of being burned in hell for mistreatment of their subjects. People are cruel and without the fear of a god watching over them, they would have nothing holding them back. I don't believe we would all be happy people living in a wonderful godless county like North Korea... and I'm not a religious person, just realistic.

The Dark Ages was the most religious time in history, and also probably the time of the worst abuses by those in power. It was the time of the feudal system and relentless persecution of anyone who was different or got out of line. Only when religion began to decline did the treatment of ordinary people start to improve.

I don't know who Fahringer is, but her assessment is right. Some parts of ancient Greece had trial by jury and some degree of democracy. Hellenistic scientists calculated the circumference of the Earth and worked out the Heliocentric solar system, while the Babylonians almost discovered calculus. After the rise of Christianity, the Western world sank into barbarism until the Renaissance. Just imagine how far we'd have come now if Christianity had never existed and the Classical world had gone on progressing.

North Korea is a very religious country (see Hitchens). The cult of the Kim dynasty increasingly includes explicit supernatural elements. It's a new religion being founded right before our eyes.
