🤔 Remembrance/Memorial Day used to be May 30. When Congress created uniform 3-day weekends for Federal workers, it didn't have to subsume the day of remembrance but, here we are. If it really mattered to US leadership, other than phony platitudes, leaders could strongly suggest (and practice) 2 traditions that some folks still remember: • flying the American flag at half-staff from dawn until noon • taking part in a national moment of remembrance at 15:00 (3 pm) local time 🇺🇸🕰 I think these could be combined into one and held nationwide on the holiday Monday. Solemn half-staff of flag at 7 AM (Pacific time so the whole country is awake). Then have parades, music, placing flags on graves, food, whatever. But, at noon (Pacific), the WHOLE nation stops for raising flags to full-staff AND moments of silence nationwide. 🫡 Sounds beautiful and unifying. It won't be mandatory, just encouraged. But, anybody in elected leadership who does not participate oughta lose peoples' votes the next time!! 🤨

Sadly, for most folks its just a Day Off to go BBQ and they lose sight of the Sacrifices made of those who paid the ultimate price.
