Happy B-Day My Love

David, the love of my life, hubby/plaything, and my target for laughter is celebrating his birthday today. Yes, he made another trip around the sun, minus a small piece of his index finger on his right hand this past summer. See past posts for full stories. Stubby/hubby/plaything turned 57. Yeah he's ancient but what can I say, someone has to take care of him. If he's not trying to flood the house or electrocute himself by changing a light bulb or cutting off appendages with a table saw... I just have to keep my eye on him when he's home.
He took the day off from the office so that means I need to watch him. I should train the puppies to do that. To alert me if he gets to doing something that might be dangerous...

Spunky: Woof woof woof!!!
Me: Whats that boy? Daddy's down the well?
Spunky: Woof!
Me: And he's got the table saw with him??!?
Spunky: WOOF!! WOOF!!
Me: And he's changing a light bulb down there??
Spunky: WOOF!
Me: Timmy's with him?
Spunky: WOOF!
Me:  And Lassie too??

Potato Corn Chowder

It's that time of the year when days are starting to cool and nights are cold and foggy here in my part of South Texas. I make this only twice in Autumn. Hey, that's all I can handle. My mom used to make this around the last part of September. I have to say... Sorry mom but mine is better. This recipe makes enough to feed an army 8 to 10.

Potato Corn Chowder                              Serves 8 -10

*Large bag Ore-Ida Southern Style Hash Browns
*1 large sweet yellow onion, minced
*1 lb. bacon, slightly frozen, (NOT the maple or smoked )sliced thin, like bacon bits.
*2 cans 12 oz. each Carnation Evaporated milk
*3 cans 15 oz. each creamed corn
*1 cup celery leaves, minced
*Salt and pepper to taste

Take a large stock pot and throw the Ore-Ida Hash Browns into it. Add water til it covers the potatoes. Add the celery leaves and a little salt and pepper and bring to a boil, stirring occasionally.

Slice the half frozen pound of bacon thinly into bacon bit pieces. Then take a large skillet and fry the onions and bacon bits until done. Don't burn them. Drain the onion bacon mix on a large paper towel and set aside. Reserve 2 tablespoons of the bacon grease.
When the potatoes are very soft, add creamed corn, bacon and onions, 2 tablespoons of bacon grease, and milk to the stock pot. Bring the whole thing to a simmer for 30 minutes. This will be slightly sweet from the corn. Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve with a crusty hard bread on the side.
*Special Note* Try to make this when hubby and / or kids are not around. They tend to pilfer the cooked bacon bits.

Tangled aka Rapunzel

The last Disney cartoon movie I saw at a theater was 101 Dalmatians when I was a kid. I haven't seen one in the movie theaters since. But this time I just might go check out the cutsie new Disney movie called Tangled. I like it, the kids are probably gonna like it. It's got a lot of funny moments, mainly involving the horse. Flynn, getting a good whap upside the head with an iron frying pan made me laugh.
The movie comes out in 3D on November 24th, yep Thanksgiving. Watch the trailer.

What Next??! Relatives??

Who hath sent this plague upon thee? First it's squirrels, then roaches, now my relatives snakes?!! What did I do to deserve this my minions? I'm a good girl, I am!

Yesterday, the reason why I wasn't posting, because I try to be faithful to you my minions and post everyday, or I'll lose you all to others.... well you know. Anywho, I had to go outside and try to get this snake that was terrorizing my Bostons. I know, I know. What in the hell could terrorize a Boston Terrorist besides a squirrel, you may ask? A Coral snake. YES!!! One of my family members. You know the saying, "Red to yellow, kill a fellow; red to black, venom lack "  A pretty little deadly Coral snake was slithering into my yard and the puppies wanted to play with it. Actually Spunky alerted me to it when I was taking out the trash. I saw it moving in the grass near the walkway David built out of bricks and I immediately called them into the house. But you know dogs they like to play with deadly things so I had to bribe them by giving them some chicken I had chopped up for some homemade penicillin chicken soup. They came romping into the house and I gave them the bits of chicken. Then I grabbed my pellet gun and ran outside to kill the snake but it was faster. It slithered into a hole near the gas meter pipe that leads under the house. SHIT!!  Now I'd have to stay outside when the dogs have to go, off and on all day long. What a way to spend the day. It was pretty much shot.

This kind of snake wasn't coming out until dark but you never know if it was hungry or not and where there is one there are others. So I called my neighbors to warn them. My neighbor 2 houses down from us said he killed one this morning he found under some bricks he was going to use. Everyone else was on alert.

I decided to tape my  flashlight to my Luger pellet gun and wait until morning to get the little bugger. My patience paid off. About 3 am this morning I got dressed and crept outside with my gun and killed it.  It was in my garden looking for something to eat obviously. I won't gore you with the nasty details or put pictures of it on my page cause I felt sorry for killing such a pretty animal. It was only doing what it does naturally.  I wasn't going to take any chances on getting bit,  not with my luck. So now you know how I spent my day yesterday.

Bionic Nose

Happy Halloween month my delightful minions. The weather is changing, cool mornings and nights and warm days. I love this time of the year! The colors, the fun stuff to do, everything about Autumn is fun. The most fun holiday of the year is coming very soon now and I can't wait.

But there is one thing I hate. It's the bugs. Every year about this time when the weather changes, the bugs are coming inside for warmth. David generally sprays inside and out around the house and shed with bug spray to keep the bugs in check but there are a few who make it into the house only to die shortly after entering. Because we live near the river, we have a large problem with roaches.I hate them. They are nasty, ugly little disease carriers. The fact that I can even smell them freaks David out. He said there is no such thing as a roach having an odor. But my minions I have a bionic nose. I can smell the nasty little rascals before they appear.  They smell like wet, moldy cardboard. When I say there is a roach here in a closet it appears the next day, dead on the floor. Weird, I know. From what I understand from my friends. They can't smell roaches and never have. I guess it's one of those quarks about me.

Well there is something else I found out. Roaches carry weapons. Yesterday, I saw a roach outside running through the garden. As soon as he hit the warm sunshine he flipped on his back and all this stuff started flying from it's legs. I grabbed my glasses and went to get a look see and I saw 2 guns 3 knives and a set of brass knuckles. This little varment was packing!! I asked David about it later when he got back from Home Desperate Depot and he said He had seen it too. In fact Pebbles disarmed one near the kitchen back door as it was breaking and entering. It was on it's back yelling "I cut you"!!! He said it was wearing a green bandanna and swinging a knife at her. I guess gangs are getting really desperate in their recruits.

Questions About my Book of Shadows Previously Posted Are Answered Here

Some of you have been asking about my Book of Shadows. I bought it through Brahms Bookworks. Brahms and Robin are both amazing. They make the books by hand and fill it with empty pages of the finest quality parchment paper from France. The books are covered in real leather and you can choose the color you wish and what book you want. Mine was the Triquetra Grimoir with the lock and 2 keys as it is pictured above. It is the coolest looking book ever!!!  I have filled it with pages of my other BOS and done a lot of writing in mine as well. Most of my stuff is from my computer and then printed on their paper and I have painted in the art work myself. Brahms also has ideas on making your book pages looking old and worn to give it that handed down from witch to witch look. It took only a month for it to be made and shipped for mine but now it takes almost 3 months because of all the orders.  If you want to make a great Book of Shadows and you have the serious cash for it then go to their site and check it out. I highly recommend it. There are a few knock offs out there and they sell them for almost the same price but nowhere near the best quality as Brahms. I will be ordering a smaller book soon for my recipes for my kitchen cook book. I'm not sure what cover piece I want on it yet. Oh if you ever want any extra pages for the book,  Robin offers them.
