Monday

I'm back on track with my diet. This past week I lost three pounds and I didn't do anything. I never gave up, I think it was that I hit a plateau and my body said, "wait just one fucking second, woman! We have to rethink this weight loss idea of yours and then we'll get back to ya." That was like months ago and I never heard from my body until now. So I guess it decided dieting was a good idea.

David fell Saturday. He was moving some chicken wire we had for the veggie garden and his feet got tangled up in it and he flopped down hard on his right side on the courtyard pavers. He got up and he's okay, but he's hurting mighty bad. I thought he might have broken a rib from the way he was hurting. It's now Monday and he's got a bruise on the area where his rib cage is but he says he's fine. He finished the yard work this morning.
I moved my petunia baskets to the courtyard. There is a partially shaded area that gets the morning sun and then it's partially shaded by the neighbor's trees. I need to figure out what size pots would be good for my lemon trees. They're only 10 inches tall now with another one that sprouted during the rain storm. It has gotten to be 5 inches now. I also have to repot my pineapple plants. They have taken off like crazy. They won't have fruit for another two years but I have to find them forever pots so they can be moved into the laundry room on a dolly. I need to be able to move them on my own. I can't depend on David for everything. Who knows what the future holds.
Speaking of future. David and I will be celebrating our fifteenth wedding anniversary this September 7th. YES! I know! It's hard to believe that I would be celebrating let alone being married after all these years. Time flies so quickly when you have fun.

Fascination With Farts

David is off for 3 days and I'm playing foreman to keep him busy. Right now he's cleaning up the yard of all the dead branches that were knocked out of our trees. There's quite a bit on our roof too. The thing about pecan trees is that dead branches only fall from the tree if there is a substantial amount of wind. We had gusts at 40mph when Harvey came for a visit. That's about enough wind to do the job. I told him to pace himself and not to do too much in one day. He's not a young dude anymore.
Stacy over at Magic Love Crow asked a funny question in my comments section. She asked,
"What is it with you and Debra this week and farts?"
Well, I guess the cat per se is out of the bag. Debra is really me. YES, yes she is. No, really! I'm rich as fuck and I live in Canada and I'm on vacation in Texas. I have twenty-seven children, all of them play hockey professionally, including my two girls. Three are still in college. My husband is an actor. I actually have no dogs. I have 2 cats named Heckyl and Clyde. I have a fascination with farts. It's my life. So there you have it, Stacy.

Well, my work here is done. Y'all have a magical day.

Tuesday - Houston

Through all this shit from this past weekend with Hurricane Harvey, we feel blessed. We still have our home. We didn't get flooded out or lose electricity or lose our roof or any of that crap. The good people of Houston, Port O'Connor, and Port Aransas were not as lucky. Many lost their homes, businesses and some, their lives.

The call went out on Saturday for anyone with a boat to please get to Houston to come help. Complete strangers from all over Texas and the rest of the USA who could drop what they were doing, came together to help those stranded and yet they can't do enough. Resources are stretched to the limit, and people from all over are helping. Food banks, churches, and community centers are providing food and shelter. I saw people lined up ahead of me while I was waiting to give blood. Call centers raised money. It's unbelievable.
Everyone is helping. Except for one person. Yeah, I'm calling out Joel Osteen. You with the multi-million dollar house. A megachurch head pastor that rakes in over $50 million a week has closed the doors of his church to those who need shelter and help. You will pay dearly for your discretions you charlatan. You're a greedy bastard and I'm calling Karma to come bite you in the ass for what you have done. Even if you open the doors of your church today it will be too little too late for you. What Karma will do to you will be the worse thing ever.
Okay, I feel better now. On a lighter note. Did anyone see the story of Otis the dog?  Otis lives in Sinton Texas, about  26 miles north east of Corpus Christi. Everybody in Sinton pretty much knows Otis because he wanders around town. Well, Otis is really famous now. World wide, I'd have to say. Seems the picture that was taken by Tiele Dockens, above, has gone viral all over. Otis was walking down the street with a five-pound bag of dog food when she snapped the picture and posted it onto her Facebook page. According to the story, Otis was on his way home and he brought his own provisions. But you have to read the story. It's so cute. It shows the resourceful resilience of Texans.

Well, I have to go clean the outside of the house of leaves and hang my petunia baskets. It's still a bit windy here in Seguin but it's a cool clean wind. Y'all behave, do some good and have a great magical day. Tomorrow is Wet Dog Wednesday.

Monday - Meh

Harvey, what's left of him, is heading back towards the coast again. The weather guys say he's going to pick up power and head back into Texas towards Houston. As if those poor people don't have enough problems with flooding and heavy rains. I pray they can get through this.

For us, Harvey was like, meh. We only got 8 inches of rain since Friday night. The wind was like nothing, a puny 35 mile per hour gusts. We have leaves and pecans on the ground but that's about it. We never lost power. We did lose the internet this morning and phones but Spectrum got that up and running about 1:15 this afternoon. That's why I'm posting so late.

I forgot to take down my hanging baskets that hold my petunias. One of them fell, hook and all but the other I had David take down. We left them on the porch so they could get rain water. I did have to bring in my variegated ficus. It was blown over but not damaged. It's in a tiny 5-inch plastic pot and the ficus is like a foot and a half high. For us, we just vegged out over the weekend. David watched TV while I slept. On Thursday, I did everything like laundry, cleaned house and cooked 3 dinners ahead of time in case I felt bad from the weather, so I considered myself on vacation for the weekend.

This is similar to what my neighbor has.
Our elderly neighbor neglected to take down his tent in his front yard and it was torn to shreds by the wind. He sits under it all day long. Just sitting there even in 100-degree heat. Strange old dude. I doubt he'll be sitting outside for a while unless he goes to Walmart to get another tent.

I'll wait until tomorrow to clean all the wet leaves off the windows and porches, etc. We still have lots of wind to contend with. I've been through worse wind in El Paso. During the windy seasons in the spring and fall, El Paso gets gusts up to 80mph. Blows you around a bit.
