I Survived Hanna and Other Shit

I'm moving kinda slow today. It was a rough weekend. Hanna did as I said she would. She brushed the Texas coast and then went into the very tip of Texas as a category-1 hurricane. Minimal damage but still she did make a mess. I think altogether with the rain on and off all day Saturday we got maybe 1/2 and inch of rain at best. We did have one downpour that lasted almost 20 seconds. Very little wind. I think that was the 1/2 inch that we got. Otherwise nothing happened around here.
I did get a jolt of energy on Sunday and I cleaned house like a mad woman. David kept telling me I was going to pay dearly for it so I would quit just to make him happy but then when he went to his man cave outside to putter around I would see something needed to get done and get up to do it. I slept like a baby last night because I was to tired to stay up with my pain. I felt my Lupus kicking my ass when I got up this morning. Shit!  I had fever and pain all in my joints and it hurt like hell to walk. I can't catch a break with that thing. So today I'm taking it easy and going to let David cook.

Lucy is happy and healthy. The only thing I worry about is that she has cataracts forming in her left eye. The vet said it was still small but it's definitely starting. It is noticeable enough that she walks into walls and door jams. It makes me want to cry. Spunky was 16 when he went blind with cataracts. It was heart breaking because we couldn't find a vet to do the surgery. So I'm looking around for a good vet that will do the eye surgery for her. So far all the vets that I have called in our area will just let it take it's course and then take her eyes. They don't do cataract surgery. I'm looking into the vets in New Braunfels and San Marcos today to ask around and if they do that kind of surgery and how much it would cost. I'm crossing my fingers that we get lucky.
Well, I'm really getting tired and achy, it's what Lupus does to the body. I'm going to go lay down and read for a bit. Y'all have a safe magical day.

good to hear you were not severely impacted by the hurricane. lucy needs a perch to see outside, instead of having her stand on her back legs.

I didn't know that vets don't do cataract surgery on dogs. It's not like vets to overlook a lucrative stream of income?

The "donated my body to Goodwill" meme made me pee my pants, LOL! Stole it, of course.

So sorry you have that damned pain!
I hope you can find a vet to deal with the cataracts ... have you considered coming to Denver, CO and Dr. Jeff ... do a search on-line for him! There must be some vets who could and would do that surgery on your little gal!
Feel better, Sweetie!

I hope you feel better soon, Leanna. And I wish you well in finding a vet to do the surgery you want done for Lucy's eyes.

fucking lupus. Minnie does that, stand on her nid legs to look out the window. either my sills are lower or Minnie stands taller as her whole head is above the sill.

and I meant to add that we got 2 ½" of rain out of Hanna.

Hurricanes are so scary. Lucy is so cute watching those squirrels. I hope you can find a good reasonable vet for her eyes.

I'm sorry that Lupus is such a bitch. I, too have an autoimmune disorder, but well let's just say they can't pinpoint which one I have. I've been going through this for years and in the mean time I hurt like hell when it flares up. They had me on Methotrexate, but it wasn't reducing my inflammation markers at all, so I thought it was insane to keep taking something that's virtually poison to my body and that wasn't helping me. So, I stopped taking it. Right, now the only thing I use for pain is the medical marijuana that I smoke.

I'm also glad to hear your area wasn't too severely impacted by the Hanna. I know how devastating hurricanes can be. I, too live on the Gulf Coast. In the several decades I've lived here, I've been through some terrible storms. It's hard to explain to someone who's never been through a hurricane what one is like. The aftermath is heartbreaking.

I hope you find a vet that can help Lucy. I have 3 dogs that are my babies, so I understand how worried you are. Take care of yourself and stay safe.
